

One of the main reasons for doing this is to keep search engines from indexing this content and keep it from being available in a search of your site.Ī reason you may want to manually publish content may be due to content that you had previously unpublished but now want your website visitors to access. Unpublishing content makes it unavailable on the front end of your website.

When you update or remove content and you do not want those items accessible on the site then you can use the option to unpublish the item from the index. When you select an index item(s), you can select one of 2 options publish or unpublish. In order to use the Actions button, you will need to first select an item listed in your index. Actions button Select an index item, then click on the Actions button Interrupting the process can create an incomplete search index affecting your site’s search results. You must wait for the indexing to complete. When you are indexing your site (by clicking this button), do not close the window indicating that the indexing is in progress. Please be aware that if you have a very large site, then some time may be required for the indexing to complete. Clicking on this button will start the Joomla indexing function that creates an index based on the content of the site. Index allows you re-index the entire site. The first option that you see up top is the Index button. The Options section is very extensive and will be discussed in a separate article – Joomla 4.0 Smart Search Options. Options and Help are global options that allow you to control Smart Search or see Joomla’s documentation on the feature. The components that make up Smart Search in the backend of Joomla 4.0 include: Index, Content Maps, Filters, and Search Terms. Each component is described in the next section. The interface components of Smart Search allow you to manage the new and improved search feature. Click on the drop-down menu (the arrow) to see the components of Smart Search that you can manage.

Performance is improved features like automatic indexing and user-generated search terms to help in quickly finding a user’s search query. Joomla 4.0 Smart Search uses article content, tags, contacts, indexing, and filters as some of the features to aid users in searching content published in a Joomla 4.0 site. Joomla 3.x included both search and Smart Search, but as of version 4.0, only Smart Search remains as part of the default install. Smart Search is an improved component of Joomla 4.0.
